@pip-bip the 1963 midsize Classic and full size Ambassador introduced what American Motors referred to as the Uniside stamping, which might today be called a "Gigastamping" or something - the entire outer side, front fenders, door sills, quarter panels, roof rails, and A, B, and C pillars- was stamped as one single piece of sheet metal, then welded on. AMC bragged that it improved torsional rigidity and reduced potential squeaks and rattles, but it also substantially simplified and cost reduced the assembly process (at the expense of ease of repair for rust or collision damage)
Also, I'm pretty sure Vanity 6 was referring more to the entry level compact American in this, but, still
I'd really like to have a Rambler American from that generation, personally.
