I want to go so bad, but finances just aren't gonna let it pan out. The Volvo should be okay enough to pull it off, but it's just a wee bit too far away to do it in one go, and lodging is stupid expensive these days.
Being a jack-of-many-trades has served we well... as well.
Kudos to you both, I feel the same way. The harder part, IMO, is when you're LOOKING for a new job. It's hard to say "I'm pretty good at a lot of things and learn new stuff quickly" when HR has defined a role as needing 3-5 very specific things.
Once you get in the door, it's much easier to articulate. But with modern job listings being so prescriptive (and HR people often being robotic) it can be tough just to get in the door in the first place...
And with much of the preliminary screening being done in software...
@AkioOhtori The tracking page says that the package departed the Jersey City NDC, which means that it's tucked in a trailer in transit to the nearest NDC to you... which I guess is Dallas?, and during that time they post no updates. Once it gets there you'll see a quick succession of tracking updates as the package makes its way back to the network edge until it gets delivered.
lol ok fair, and even looking at it they had it for less than 24 hours before it left NJ. Like all things in life, there is an XKCD for this:
@AkioOhtori yeah I imagine my 20k bank could in theory charge a laptop but I don't think the amperage output would move at a sufficient speed for a laptop. Ive also not owned a laptop (other than my work one) for over 15 years. Shit just realized that 2009 was that long ago.
I was still using a custom software PSP as my primary portable entertainment center at that time.
With USB C it is mostly about voltage (I mean... watts too but one begets the other). Making sure the bank supports higher voltages like 20V+ helps immensely on devices that support it.
@pip-bip I want to find whoevers idea this was and beat them mercilessly with an instrument that won't get me arrested. The amount of shit on the Internet now scheming about Pontiac's return is stupid.
Same idiots that share around a photo of a concept car from 20 years ago and ask if you've heard about the "new 2024 Chrysler Imperial they're coming out with" (as if we're also not already well into 2024 and gearing up for 2025 model year launches)
@john-norris oh...I did not mean to imply that it was good. Only that we expect so little from insurance companies that it changes our response. We expect better even from airlines, but from insurance companies the sleaziness is just taken as a given.
@benjrblant Still in the process of cleaning and am not home now, but a bucket of purple power and rubbing with shop cloths got it good 'nuff. It's fargo we're talking about, I'll live if his oil cooler is a little crummy, so long as it doesn't leak.
That looks damn nice overall.
Looks like it's been painted once.
Interior is kinda gross.
But for the money/miles/overall condition it's easily worth double their ask.
@J-B It's really not quite as nice as it looks in pictures, but given the age and abuse that a lot of these cars took it has held up remarkably well. I bought it specifically because I wanted to experience a bank-vault-era Mercedes and it hasn't disappointed on that front.
seems like there would be a market for a teardrop-shaped vehicle that is closer to the size of a van.
I've always had a soft spot in my head heart for the slightly postwar GM "Sedanet" style, which I think the Buick did best
although all their car making divisions got in on it.
@davesaddiction There was an almost entirely content-free blurb about it below the news article you linked, but no photos of the Jeepneys, so of course I had to dig further.
I saw a few of every Tesla (except the CT) yesterday and I was struck by just how generically copied they are to each other. It's brand consistency taken to an extreme.
I also started visualizing the idea of giving up a few points of on the Cd/aerodynamics in order to give us a proper SUV/wagon rear...like a Rivian R1S or something.
So the weird thing about the CT is how it's the polar opposite of the others. It kind of made me mad they didn't just split the difference from the beginning. "You had angles the whole time? And you were saving them all to put on ONE CAR?!"
When they decided to use stainless steel it drove most of their design decisions. It just doesn't stamp well like the steel or aluminum that they use on most cars. Your typical front fender has complex 3 dimensional bends in it. With stainless steel your are mostly confined to 2 dimensions with a fold across the full span of the part. Of course DeLorean had the same problem for the same reason. Rounded body parts do not work well in stainless
@Shop-Teacher Thank you for this account! The bigger hope and fear is that this teacher will leave the profession. My own experience tells me that if she sticks it out, this experience will build her teaching character and as a tenured teacher, she will be much more effective at managing the nonsense.
Anderson had the bad form to die on a Friday, when I already had my TDIAH post written and posted. I need to do an article about him, and I will, but this has been a crazy week with my boys graduating from high school and family in town. I'll try to get to it next week.
Good to hear from you. Please don't be a stranger.
@Vondon302 I am not a bike guy, but I've seriously considered getting my bike license to buy a vintage or retro-style scooter....there is just something I love about them!
@annoying_salman Liking the Astrea! Looks like an updated model of the Super Cub in many ways really?
