And yeah, that is a lot of cash to spend on a car that is likely at or nearing the bottom of its depreciation curve, but, counterpoint, this is Oppo, the central hub of questionable automotive decisions. Few here are going to throw shade at repairing a vehicle you like, especially if you have the means of repairing it and it is otherwise good.
Or, if you want to be made to feel better: In 2016 I spent $5,500 in ransom to get one of my cars back from a mechanic and after wrenching on it for probably 200+ hours and spending north of another $5k on it in parts, it still doesn't run right. Or that time my Disco was diagnosed with blown head gaskets two months after I bought it for $2,800, but rather than scrap it I went ahead and did the work. (Would have been $4k at a shop, but for that one I did the work myself). So... you're in good company π
