So, as it turns out they did actually want to steal the glider and trailer. The trailer wasn't hooked up so they hitched it up themselves. They had hidden the trailer on a gravel road near the airport and camouflaged it with old tarps. Seems like they also took the glider battery, the solar panel that was mounted to the top of the trailer and, for some reason, the glider main spar pins. The truck is a write-off as it looks like they were trying to reenact some Dukes Of Hazzard stunts with it. Oh, and jumping up and down on the roof. Some damage to the glider too so it's probably out of service for the rest of the year.
Charges now include theft over $100,000, vandalism, and possibly the federal level charges that can come with messing with an aircraft and on a registered airport - who knows what the Crown will actually pursue though.
For some reason I don't have any pictures of the glider involved but here's one of the same type, engine extended and climbing out under power. (Me, I have to wait my turn to get hooked up to one of our L-19 Birddogs and make my way into the sky on the end of two hundred feet of rope)
