That's code for "we don't have time to deal with this shit" and he's not actually going to discuss anything or call you back at all.
Not to be a downer, but they'll easily sell it at asking price to someone else, they're not going to play phone games with someone they don't even know is actually going to show up.
Disagree, but if so then I guess they don't get my money. It isn't like I'm going to fly up there without a deal in place
Dealers here won't even begin to make a deal on the phone or via email. You try to haggle on the phone or via email, you just end up with radio silence. I think it's mostly because 99% of people who do this are tire kickers and they know they're just wasting their time.
Again, disagree. I certainly prefer to do it in person, but at least two of the dealers I've talked to about the 4C will do the transaction without me ever setting foot in the office. About half of the last ten cars I've bought the deal has been partially or completely done over text/email/phone, with only the final paperwork being done in person. There are absolutely tire kickers out there, but one could argue it is literally their job to deal with them and also be able to distinguish them from actual customers.
Or, again, I guess they don't get my money.
I mean... what is my other option? Spend $500 to fly up there, show up, get told their asking price is the price, and then spend another $300 to fly home? Doesn't seem like a good use of my time. I would absolutely do that, and have, if I were willing to pay asking, but I think their asking is over market by a fair bit.
