People who can't make ends meet at $15+/hour isn't a pay problem.
... in your area. Here, it's just life. Rent in my town has nearly doubled in the past decade

Lol what
Have you looked at cost of living in any actual city?
It's why you do what I did, you don't live in the City.
Rent in the City here is $1500 for a studio apartment, which one can afford so long as they don't also tack on a car payment, massive phone bill, etc and instead only have the necessities.
Meanwhile a studio apartment just 18 miles away can be had for $600. Hell, my little 2 bedroom I just left was only $700/month.
Now, I'm not saying it's everywhere, and I know cost of living isn't the same everywhere, but I also know full well the average person tries to live far outside their means. Needing to have a new car, new phone, new clothes all the time, expensive makeup, etc isn't a "pay problem", it's a spending problem.
When I was supporting my family on $10/hour, we had 2 paid off vehicles we bought in cash, we had food on the table every day, we didn't have any fancy phones or expensive phone bills, we kept good insurance to not be surprised by "surprises", basically just did everything possible to ensure no crippling expense would hit and lived the best we could. I had to bust my ass in a literal sweat shop for 70+ hours a week, throwing 200lb sheets of steel every day.
While I want better for my kids, I also don't tolerate them complaining about making $14/hour starting working 30 hours a week thinking they deserve more.
