@davesaddiction I'm most likely sticking with it for a while, I don't mind losing to faster cars (yet). I have enough plastic trophies, so my only real complaint is that being in a higher class puts me in a different run group from my old 1st gen buddies and often makes me one of the slowest cars in the fastest group. I can make it to mid pack based on comparative skill, but being at less than half the average hp in a run group can cause issues.
My competitors run a base Cayman (987.2) is in my class along with the older gen (2014) Mustang GT and the Golf R. I just about always beat the Golf R, run very close to the Mustang (usually behind him by 0.5-1s), but get trounced by the Cayman (2s or more). I've tracked with all the drivers for years, and we're at very similar skill levels (the Cayman driver and I used to run gen1 86's and were always neck and neck).
The second gen 86 is only in T3 because the old car is in T4 and is still too popular to be forced to compete with the newer, faster version. The S2000 is the fastest car in T4 and is faster than the new 86. For my T3 class the fastest car would either be a 2012 Cayman S, 2008 911, or the 2016 Base Cayman (I don't think the newer base would out do the old S, but I haven't done any A/B testing on the two). An E46 M3 is in that class and could put up a good fight, but I think the Porsches would come out on top. The 370z is in there too, but I only ever see clapped out 350z's at the track so I don't have a good reference.
