Saturn was just cheaper Chevy and Chevy was as cheap as you could get already.
Was it? I thought Saturn was meant to be a smidge nicer than Chevy (i.e. the DOHC spaceframe S-Series vs the ancient-technology Cavalier) and that carried on into the rebadging era where I thought the Relay stood slightly above the Uplander.
It's weird because despite the hugely famous brand image of 'Chevrolet' (especially overseas) GM always seems hellbent on making it an absolute bargain-basement brand to sell the cheapest junk they can get their hands on (see Aveo, Lacetti, and now Trax).

China saved Buick
Temporarily. Sales are dropping off and while they're still strong, CDM consumer preferences are pivoting strongly to domestic-badged EVs that offer way more tech for way less coin than GM's crappy Volt-based economy cars. Unless their new EV CUVs like the Electra can offer a compelling USP then I don't see them coming back on brand recognition alone.

Had they kept Pontiac around and actually marketed the AWESOME Australian cars they imported it would have been fine and thrived again at some point.
This is my take too. Sure Holden probably would never have been profitable, but at least if it was Pontiac's sister brand then we'd have gotten another decade of LHD Holdens instead of the 'last chance Chevy SS!'
