@davesaddiction I'm thankful that Saab was at least sold, not discontinued. Spyker lacked the cash to save Saab, and a deal with Koenigsegg fell through.
Saab sales were actually going up until the recession hit, and then nosedived. The diversifying 9-2X and 9-7X understandably flopped (even though neither were bad), and the 9-3 and 9-5 needed updates, but as bankruptcy approached, they never got them. I'm thankful that Saab managed a last gasp with the NG 9-5 and 9-4X, even though they were a flash in the pan.
@amoore100 Seeing as the entire industry has shifted towards electrification, I don't think making Saturn a hybrid/EV brand, while it would have been a neat idea in 2009, would have been worth it in the long run.
@Nauraushaun GM bought half of Saab in 1989 and the rest of it in 2000; Saab needed money and GM wanted an upscale brand in Europe. GM saved Saab, but limiting outside-of-the-box themes in their cars was a mistake.
