Im 100% in the same boat with USAA. They have been great, ive had them for 15 years, and I am quite confident that if I ever need to use my insurance, they will do the job correctly. Thats the point of paying for the service right? Sure I could probably save some money shopping around and going elsewhere, but will I actually be covered in a tricky situation? The fact that its unknown makes it worth the premium.
I did move my Miata to Haggerty but thats because USAA doesnt offer a historic plate insurance (internally anyways, they offered an outsourced one which isnt the same thing). I have no idea what they are like as an insurance company so it is a gamble. But yeah USAA doesnt have a good solution to "I keep the car in a garage 7 days a week and only drive it for fun" use case.
100% of my insurance claims for auto have been through other at fault companies so I really havent used my USAA coverage for much, but they have covered rental car incidents no questions asked. Plus even with them being not at fault, they made communication WAY easier and always offered to go to bat if the other company decides to be problematic.
