@bison78 Feeling a lot more justified in insisting on not renting from them.
I have always wondered about this, as it seems like it would be basically impossible to return an EV "full" as any driving from where you charged to the drop off point is going to affect the range. Sounds like Hertz actual policy, not the one that was enacted here, is to charge $25-$35 with... yeah OK I'm down. Hell if that were the charge to not have to worry about gas when I drop off a car I'd go for it, rather than the scam rates they actually charge.
As a sidenote, there have been mummers that some rental agencies have been charging for refueling based on the car's reported fuel level at time of return, down to like 1/32 or 1/64 of a tank and in defiance of most of their actual policies about the car needing to have been filled up within X miles of the airport. The thinking here is most people aren't going to bother contesting a sub $5 charge. I've never encountered this issue, but after hearing about it I started "topping off" my rentals when filling them up, even though, in general, this is really bad for the EVAP system. However, every time I do it I get a small joy when thinking "play stupid games, win stupid prizes." I felt somewhat vindicated when the last time I was given a car-generated fuel level it dead 17/16 or something like that 😆
